Title: Stand by Me
Directed by: Rob Reiner
Based on the novella: The Body by Stephen King
Starring: Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, Kiefer Sutherland

Synopsis:

Set in the summer of 1959 in the small town of Castle Rock, Oregon, Stand by Me follows four 12-year-old boys—Gordie Lachance, Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp, and Vern Tessio—who embark on a journey to find the body of a missing boy presumed dead in the woods.

Each boy brings his own emotional baggage to the trip:

  • Gordie struggles with the recent death of his older brother and feeling neglected by his parents.

  • Chris is branded as a delinquent due to his family's reputation, but is intelligent and deeply introspective.

  • Teddy is mentally scarred by his abusive father, a war veteran.

  • Vern is the timid and awkward one of the group.

As they hike along the railroad tracks and camp in the woods, the boys share stories, face dangers (including leeches, a train, and a gang of older teens), and confront truths about themselves and their futures.

The journey becomes a rite of passage, marking the end of their innocence and the beginning of growing up. The story is framed by an adult Gordie, now a writer, looking back on that pivotal moment of friendship and loss.
